IDF Brigadier General: Israel controls the West Bank

The Haaretz story I quoted in my post yesterday was apparently wrong. It was not an IDF Colonel who boasted about Israel having total control of the West Bank, it was a Brigadier General. And not just any Brigadier General, at that. He is in charge of Israel’s mechanism of control in the West Bank, what is euphemistically called the “Civil Administration”:

The Jerusalem Post reported today that the head of the [Israeli] Civil Administration [in the West Bank] Brigadier-General Yoav Mordechai said Monday that “The control of the IDF and security forces in Jericho is absolute, and anyone who deviates from normative behavior and engages in criminal activity or terror will be removed from there quickly”. The JPost story added that “Mordechai said that he personally boarded the buses on Monday and explained the ground rules to the Palestinians, who under the deal between Israel and the PA will not be allowed to leave Jericho. ‘I explained to them the difference between Gaza and the West Bank and how they will need to behave differently’, he said. ‘None of them are saints, but none of them are mega-terrorists either, and each and every one of them was checked by the Shin Bet’.” The full story can be read on the JPost website here .
