Why is this soldier smiling?

He must be telling jokes to the Palestinians detained in an “incursion” in northern Gaza today. Or maybe the Palestinians are telling him jokes…but they are not smiling. Perhaps he knows his Mother will see this photo (it’s at the top of the Haaretz website this evening), and maybe he even called her on his mobile phone to tell her about it…
There was an Israeli “incursion” into southern Gaza yesterday.
