More big news: Israel permitted 251 truckloads of goods to enter Gaza today

As the sense of crisis continues here, the Israeli military announced today that 251 truckloads of goods have been permitted to enter Gaza today.

This is a great increase over the daily average in recent months, but it is still a far cry from the 400-600 truckloads daily that entered Gaza before the Israeli blockade.

Is this because of the big Muslim holiday coming up in a week’s time? Is it due to increased international pressure, or to deflect attention from these pressures? Could it be a down-payment for the reported imminent deal to release (by next Friday, 27 November) of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit, captured in a cross-border raid in late June 2006 and believed to have been held in Gaza since then?

Other possibilities:could it be because of an Israeli concern that a “humanitarian crisis”, which Israel’s Supreme Court has said the country’s military must not allow to happen, may be looming? Or, could it be that anpther Israeli military operation is being planned?

Stay tuned …
